Refuge of Hope for Trafficked Children
Why We Need Abishai Farms
The United States is one of the most active sex trafficking countries in the world, where exploitation of trafficking victims occurs in cities, suburban and rural areas. Some statistics below from stopitnow.org, savethechildren.org and Psychology Today:
1
Extent and Consequences
Children make up 27% of all human trafficking victims worldwide, and 2 out of 3 are girls. However, this statistic may be misleading as reports find that many males do not report the abuse.

-
The average age for a minor to enter the sex trade is 12 – 14, however, they can be much younger.
-
At least 31% of girls and 7% of boys involved in the juvenile justice system have been sexually abused.
2
Trafficking Dynamics
A majority of victims are trafficked by someone they know, such as a friend, family member, or romantic partner, or from someone online.

-
In some cases, children can be trafficked and exploited right from their own homes. In the U.S., trafficking often occurs at hotels, motels, truck stops, and online.
-
While physical force can be involved, trafficking can also occur through threats, coercion, deception, or manipulation. Victims may be controlled through drug addiction, violent relationships, financial dependence, or isolation from family and friends.
3
Industry and Recidivism
Sex trafficking is a multi-billion dollar industry, and unlike drug trafficking where drugs are sold once, children are sold and exploited many times over every day.

-
Among the many human tragedies of sex trafficking, one stands out: For many children who are rescued from sex trafficking, it’s only a matter of time until they are re-trafficked. By many estimates, 80% of rescued children will be back “in the life,” in less than a year.
-
With no place to go, no education, and no life skills, rescued children are likely to be re-trafficked.
