Refuge of Hope for Trafficked Children
Our Story
Our founders were deeply impacted by the news and exposes about the horror of the world of
human trafficking. Rather than just standing by while countless children are being exploited
around the world, they decided to take action and help make a difference. Learning that there
was a limited supply of safe houses and therapeutic resources available, we felt compelled to
act.
Our plan began with purchasing an existing smaller home, allowing us to start helping girls in
need as quickly as possible. At the same time, we are laying the groundwork for our larger
vision: building a 14-bedroom rescue house on a 10-acre farm.
While we work toward the construction of the larger farm home, we're partnering with a
sustainable farmer to cultivate fruit and nut trees, vines, and native plants on the property. This
approach will help us become self-sustaining, using our produce, livestock, beehives and
training programs to nourish the girls and generate surplus to support the home’s operations.
Our immediate focus is on providing care and support to girls in need, but our long-term vision
remains clear. We are committed to expanding our capacity, and we believe that with
determination and faith, our larger dream of building a safe haven for many more girls will be
realized.
Building a Farm to Fund Operations
Diverse Agriculture
-
Our fertile acres are dedicated to growing a rich variety of vegetables, fruit and nuts. Crop rotation and companion planting ensure soil health and prevent depletion.
-
We believe in the power of diversified planting. By cultivating different crops, we enhance resilience against pests, diseases, and adverse weather conditions.
Livestock Integration
-
Our sheep and goats play a vital role. They provide us with milk, meat and cheese, enriching our diet and reducing our reliance on external sources.
-
These animals also contribute to soil fertility through their manure, which we use as natural fertilizer.
-
Our residents will learn how to make the milk and cheese and soap and how to spin and work with the wool from the herd. We love to share knowledge on weaving and knitting goods which can then be sold.
-
We have ducks, turkeys, and chickens whos’ eggs and meat we can process. We plan to teach our residents how to cook and bake with all that Yah provides for us, eating some of it ourselves and selling the remainder to the community.
Buzzing Blessings
-
Our bee hives hum with purpose. From these tiny pollinators, we harvest golden honey—a sweet gift from nature.
-
The bees, in turn, pollinate our crops, ensuring bountiful harvests.
-
The residents will learn how to turn bees wax into candles and also into balms and salves to sell.
Minimizing Waste
-
Waste is not wasted here. We practice revolving door composting, turning organic matter into nutrient-rich soil amendments and what is edible to the animals.
-
Our commitment to waste reduction extends to water management, where we optimize usage and minimize runoff.
Renewable Energy
-
We harness the sun and wind. Solar panels and wind turbines provide clean energy, reducing our carbon footprint.
-
Sustainability isn’t just about what we take; it’s about what we give back.
Community Blessing, Not Burden
-
Abishai Farms aims to be a blessing to our community. We share knowledge, surplus produce, and collaborate with neighboring farms.
-
By practicing self-sufficiency, we lessen the strain on local resources and contribute to a healthier, more resilient self-sustaining and income generating community.
Abishai Farms stands as a testament to the beauty of self-sustaining agriculture—a model that nourishes both the land and the soul.
